Our next tasting evening will focus on the wines, cheeses & charcuterie of Portugal. For a relatively small country, Portugal has a broad range of terrains and climates, from the rocky Atlantic coastlines on the western shores; the dry plains of the Alentejo which are home to olive groves and cork trees; the cooler mountainous north; plus semi-tropical islands such as Madeira. Most of us assume that Portuguese cuisine is the same as Spanish, however while the two countries make use of many of the same ingredients, their very different histories and landscapes have created distinctly different cooking styles and dishes.
