North to South…a journey through Italy
Friday 20th September (6pm-8pm) is the date for our next tasting evening where we revisit one of our favourite destinations, Italy. Our journey will cover almost 1,000 kilometres from north to south as we explore the amazing variety of foods and wines this beautiful country has to offer.
We start in the north with Parma ham from Emilia-Romagna, basil pesto from Liguria and Taleggio cheese from Lombardy, alongside Barbera and Dolcetto d’Alba red wines from Piemonte. Travelling south through Tuscany we rediscover the delights of Chianti and seasonal cheese Ubriaco, soaked in red wine as it matures. From this region the Angeli family also produce the most amazing roasted artichoke hearts.
In Puglia, the heel of Italy, we discover flavoured organic olive oils made by the DeCarlo family with lemons, basil and chillies. Also from winemaker Filippo Baccalaro (of popular Gran Sasso fame) a very drinkable Primitivo to enjoy. Our journey ends across the waters of the Mediterranean with the white wine Grillo from the hills outside Trapani in Sicily and the seasonal flavour of Pecorino with truffle from Sardinia.
Tickets are only £10 and are redeemable against any purchases made on the evening. A presto!
